Music documentaries tend to provide a geek-pleasing insight into a given topic that the DVDs bundled with ‘special edition’ albums rarely accomplish. As an ardent axe wielder it was only a matter of time before I confronted cinema’s latest gift to my kind, but does ‘It Might Get Loud’ manage to escalate beyond the status of mere guitar-god porn?

There was once a time, not so long ago, that people actually cared what Jack White did. If you missed the early 2000s garage rock revival then this might even come as a shock. Surely the Dead Weather drummer and Raconteurs co-star doesn’t actually have anything decent to his name other than the plodding ‘Steady As She Goes’ and underappreciated ‘Treat Me Like Your Mother’?

In this spirit of dangerous hyperbole we decided to dig out our old Magic 8 Ball to see what the future holds for some of the most prominent acts and artists of the noughties.

Jack White must be an awfully busy man, what with his commitment to setting up bands for the sake of it and shopping for stage gear exclusively in red, white and black tones; it’s a real wander how he gets any time to do stage invasions. Nevertheless if you’re going to do one, you may as well aim to go higher in the dignity charts, eh Kanye?
