Best Albums Of 2010: January – June

In marathon terms, the mid-point of the race is the most crucial of all. The initial chaff has been separated from the wheat and moving forward into the rest of the race you’ll begin to see the main contenders for a podium finish. Despite our somewhat extended use of this Olympic metaphor though, you should by no means rule out a sprint finish from a rank outsider or past master in the months of July to December. Just consider the following list then, as our 21 mile round-up of the best album releases to date in 2010.

So did you miss us? Go on admit it, one week without The Counterfit in your life was bearable but going cold Turkey for a month or so was too much to handle. Well in contrast to our last utterance where we had no free time to speak of, now we have it in abundance! Coming up in the next week will be a review of the Pixies at the Troxy, a summer Spotify playlist and the start of our ‘Buyers Guide’ series along with all our usual features and wry commentary but in the meantime here’s a round up of all that’s been good in the months of April-May 2010.

It’s been a while since we’ve done a ‘what we’re listening to’ feature and so with post haste we present to you fresh cuts from the likes of The Streets, Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse, Kate Nash, Foals and Kick Up The Fire. Is May 2010 The Best Ever Month For New Music?

Here at The Counterfit we pride ourselves on keeping a vestige of calm whilst a hell-hath-no-fury-hype-storm breaks loose around us. When it comes to May of this year though, there are literally so many albums we’re excited about that we are practically wishing away the days until 2010’s fifth month comes around.
