Mock The Week: 27/02/10

Yesterday was a dark day for British radio. The passing of Adam Catterall from Preston’s Rock FM after five years at the station and 3 a half years on the breakfast show will be deeply mourned by Lancashire lovers of Slipknot with their cereal. Elsewhere some muso BBC station is going to be shut down but you didn’t want to read about that did you?

For a magazine so embroiled in its own unpredictable endorsements and provocative interviews you’d hope the NME Awards would provide a welcomed antithesis to the back-patting chart obsessed ceremonies that have become the norm, but alas the event has dwindled into an ever more predictable evening of stereotyping the magazine’s readerbase with annoyingly consistent gong-winners.

This week was home to the release of the wonderful ‘Cornerstone’ by Yorkshire’s finest the Arctic Monkeys on 10 inch vinyl and digital download. We’re sure you’ve all heard heard the single’s centrepiece track, perhaps you’ve even seen its bizarre video accompaniment but you probably haven’t heard its fantastic B-sides.
