Yesterday was a dark day for British radio. The passing of Adam Catterall from Preston’s Rock FM after five years at the station and 3 a half years on the breakfast show will be deeply mourned by Lancashire lovers of Slipknot with their cereal. Elsewhere some muso BBC station is going to be shut down but you didn’t want to read about that did you?

Hello esteemed followers of The Counterfit!

This is Rob speaking (as per usual) just to give a wee update as to the upward crawl of my career arc. Essentially the foolish people at Gigwise have been negligent enough to hire me to write a few bits and bobs for them and accordingly you can today read a nice shiny piece on the death of BBC 6Music here. Usually I plan to just post these things up properly on hallowed Counterfit webspace but because I plan to enjoy a tipple this evening I can’t say I’ll find the time.

For a magazine so embroiled in its own unpredictable endorsements and provocative interviews you’d hope the NME Awards would provide a welcomed antithesis to the back-patting chart obsessed ceremonies that have become the norm, but alas the event has dwindled into an ever more predictable evening of stereotyping the magazine’s readerbase with annoyingly consistent gong-winners.

As The Counterfit holds top secret access to UK Top 40 information we were surprised to see today ‘Manchester’s new saviours circa 2008-10’ The Courteeners sophomore LP Falcon has dropped like a lead balloon to number five in the album charts on first day sales.

As much as they’ve been lambasted for bringing landfill indie to the masses though, we share a soft spot for Liam Fray and the other three. On this note then here’s five reasons to sway you towards the HMV tills should you feel the need for some anthemic indie in your life…
